Torsional Flexibility of Grid Couplings
2023-08-21 15:00When the transmitted torque increases, the grid will deform along the teeth surface, resulting in the force points of the two hubs acting on the grid approaching. The contact point between the grid and the teeth surface, i.e. the change in torque, varies with the magnitude of the transmitted torque. Its transmission characteristic is variable stiffness, which can withstand greater load changes than ordinary elastic coupling. The transmission speed of the grid coupling is good, and the short-term overload capacity is twice the rated torque. The straight part of the grid is basically parallel to the connected axis. As the load increases, the deformation of the grid incr
eases, the contact surface with the teeth increases, and the distance between the contact points becomes shorter and shorter.
The material selection of the grid is very important. Throughout the entire transmission process, torque is transmitted by the grid, and the elastic variable generated by the grid during torque transmission enables the mechanical system to achieve good vibration reduction effect, thereby avoiding resonance phenomena. Once the grid breaks or is damaged, the entire transmission components cannot work properly. Grid has good elasticity and is not prone to plastic deformation when subjected to heavy loads. It has good fatigue strength, long service life under repeated loads, and sufficient toughness. It can prevent sudden brittle fracture under impact force.
When installing seals, and other components on the shafts, it is prohibited to forcefully strike or impact the coupling to prevent damage or damage to the components. The hot installation of the grid coupling is carried out under high temperature and tension, so it is necessary to have a sufficient estimate of the possible problems and try to avoid them in advance. Adjust the concentricity error, angle error, etc. between the two hubs of the grid coupling, and try to be as small as possible than the design requirements.
We need to pay attention to material, hardness, heat treatment quality, etc. After heat treatment, there should be no defects such as cracks, to improve the processing quality of curved tooth surfaces. The buffering effect generated by the transmission force causing the grid to deform along the teeth arc, especially during machine startup or impact load, has the characteristic of protecting the supporting components. Due to the point contact between the grid and the teeth curved surface, the grid coupling can achieve greater flexibility and can be installed to work normally with radial, angular, and axial deviations at the same time. The grid coupling has good vibration damping and long service life.
